In all my years of hearing the Christmas story, every message I heard focussed on Mary’s faithfulness. This year, I noticed something different.

Mary didn’t have a choice. <gasp>

Mary was told what was going to happen. She wasn’t asked. She did agree with the plan, but it really wasn’t up to her.

Joseph was the one with the choice.

He had already made up his mind to divorce Mary (It wasn’t his kid she was carrying), but he chose to obey God and stand by her.

He changed his mind. He went against his gut. He went against tradition. He chose to stay. He chose to obey.

I wonder what would happen if more fathers would choose to stay and obey?

Merry Christmas

….and Felix Mazel Tov.

Today the Mathews family opened presents, ate at the Clock, went to the park, took a nap, played Nerf football and ate leftovers for dinner.

Quite possibly the best Christmas ever.

We have a fake tree.¬† It lives in a box in the attic 11 months out of the year. I’ve never had a real tree. Never. The only people I know with a real tree were my “rich” friends.

What about you? Real or Fake?

This is the first year I can honestly say I don’t want anything.

What I’d really like is clean drinking water in Africa.

Or for kids to have shoes.

Or for kids to be loved and cared for.

So if you’re still bent on getting me something, let me know you gave to one of these and I’ll have the best Christmas ever Charlie Brown.

The 50,000 Pairs in 50 Days Challenge

I’m kinda the Grinch when it comes to Christmas. I hate how commercial it has gotten. But I like music, especially remakes. And I like remakes of Christmas songs by famous artists.

So what if you could get FREE Christmas songs?

Amazon is giving away free Christmas mp3 downloads for the 25 days of Christmas.

PS. This counts as my gift to you. You now owe me a present equivalent to $24.75, the price of 25 downloads.
